Configure prefixes, aliases, and bot behavior in seize

Customize how seize responds in your server. Set server and personal prefixes, create command aliases, ignore users, and use mention prefixes.

seize gives you several ways to control how commands are triggered in your server. You can change the default prefix, create personal shortcuts, build custom command aliases, silence specific users, and invoke the bot by mentioning it. This page covers every option.

Server prefix

By default, seize uses , (comma) as its prefix. Server administrators can change or reset it at any time.

Prefix lengths are limited to 5 characters maximum. When you change the prefix, seize updates its in-memory cache immediately so the new prefix is active right away.

Personal prefix (Premium)

Premium users can set a prefix that applies only to themselves across every server. This prefix takes priority over the server prefix.

Personal prefixes can be up to 10 characters long. If you do not have Premium, the command will tell you that a subscription is required.

Mention prefix

You can invoke seize by mentioning it instead of using a text prefix. The bot also responds when you mention it with no additional text by replying with the current server prefix and a link to commands.

Examples:

• @seize (returns the current prefix)

Behind the scenes, seize builds a prefix list that includes both the server/personal prefixes and the bot mention. If your message contains any mention, the mention is checked without the trailing space for convenience.

Command aliases

Server managers can create custom shortcuts that map one word to an existing command. Aliases are stored per-guild and resolved before the command is processed.

For example, if you run ,alias add ban kaboom, typing ,kaboom @user will execute the ban command. You cannot override hardcoded command names or aliases built into the bot.

Ignoring users

If a specific user is spamming commands or causing disruption, moderators can make seize ignore all commands from that user. The user is still able to chat normally; only bot commands are blocked.

Running ,ignore on a user who is already ignored removes them from the ignored list. Ignored users are checked before aliases or command processing, so the bot silently drops their messages.

Slash commands

seize supports Discord slash commands in addition to prefix commands. Slash commands appear in the command palette when you type / and do not require a prefix. They use the same underlying logic as prefix commands, so settings like ignored users still apply.

You can combine configurations: set a short server prefix for regular use, add a personal prefix for yourself, and keep aliases for frequently used moderation commands.
